About

The company built to close the gap between what people understand and what gets decided

Hunome exists because the understanding organisations need is partly held by their people — often the unheard ones — partly outside their walls, in adjacent domains and with experts who see the change coming, and partly does not exist yet at all — it is created when these varied people deliberate together. Approaches used so far destroy it on the way to a decision.

Where Hunome comes from

Before Hunome was a platform, the insight behind it was a practice — and before that, a frustration.

In the late 1990s at Nokia, Dominique Jaurola and more than sixty colleagues could see the shift coming in mobile — including the move Apple would ride a decade later — clearly, years ahead, straight out of the futures work they had done together. The understanding was there. Getting it to the decision that mattered was the hard part.

That gap — between what people collectively understand and what actually gets decided — is not a Nokia story. It is the standard condition of organisations everywhere. Every tool built since aggregates and converges diverse input into a single output, and in doing so destroys exactly what makes understanding actionable: the reasoning, the texture, the connections between perspectives that no single mind holds.

Hunome was founded to close that gap structurally — not with another workshop format or survey tool, but with an architecture that preserves how a group’s understanding actually forms. Dominique took the issue to a TEDx stage long before the product could carry it: “Humanity is hiding in plain sight”.

What Hunome is

Hunome is the operating system for change, delivering deliberative intelligence. Enterprise, organisations, communities and researchers use it to build genuine shared understanding: structured, preserved as a living map of how a group is thinking, and available to be worked with.

Contributors build SparkMaps — structured visual deliberations where perspectives are added, connected and characterised. The Lens, Hunome’s AI analysis layer, reads the characterised deliberation in real time and surfaces the clusters, tensions and signals that are slow and labour-intensive to assemble by hand. Hunome’s AI serves the collective human intelligence, not the other way around.

Human-aware by design

Human-centric observes. Human-aware navigates. One word of difference, two fundamentally different operating models. Human-centred approaches observe people within fixed frames — valuable, but static and unscalable. Human-aware scales to humans navigating fluid, systemic complexity, and keeps them inside the reasoning throughout.

Hunome surfaces the interconnected dimensions of how humans think, decide, impact and are impacted — including the voices usually omitted. People appear throughout the decision system: as thinkers, with diverse perspectives converging and diverging on the core question and full reasoning chains visible; as deliberators of what comes next; as those who bear the consequences, intended or not; as creators of solutions stress-tested against the system they will reshape; as stakeholders from every affected party; and through the humanities lens — psychology, sociology, history, philosophy — expertise on what works for humans, and why.

The result: leadership sees humans throughout the decision system. All at scale. All traceable. All human-preserved.

Hunome in years

The backstory of a startup is always more than the overnight success that people know about. Ours is steady progress on a strategic roadmap — self-funded, bootstrapped, deliberate. Category creation moves this way: the pain organisations feel is real, but the language for it is not yet formulated. Building the language and the product had to happen together.

  • 2017Hunomics Ltd incorporated in Helsinki. The intent was clear from the start.
  • 2019The work began in earnest mid-year: a starting team of design and development, focused on the founding product. Dominique and Mika start working on Hunome together.
  • 2021Our first product goes live: the Free Forever beta. We develop alongside and with the markets, not in the lab — beginning with individuals drawn to deliberation.
  • 2022–2024Working with groups and networks: humanathons, the Anchor client programme, the client roadmap defined. Validation with organisations of many kinds — all of which want to deliberate, and all of which do it today in tools not designed for it.
  • 2024–2026The story is picked up by Euronews. A major brand update. Deliberations run with many kinds of groups. The Free Forever product moves through update releases, joined by the Starter product for groups and networks and the Premium product for enterprise clients.

One example deliberation: with Futurely, a global deliberation on demographic change, thirty-six contributors across continents, seven clusters of meaning emerging, none pre-specified.

The company

Hunome is built by Hunomics Ltd, a Finnish company headquartered in Helsinki (Reg. 2858779-8). Founder: Dominique Jaurola, with Mika Raulas joining part time in 2019 and full time in 2024. The team is ten thinkers and doers across multiple countries — founders and operators, AI and data science, product and design craft, and the collective sensemaking domain itself.
